Skier, Snowboarder Die In Avalanches In West

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — A skier and a snowboarder have died in separate avalanches in the West, bringing to seven the number of deaths from avalanches this winter in the U.S.

Officials say snowboarder Jed Wesley Foster died Tuesday in an avalanche south of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming.

The skier died the same day on Cedar Mountain in southwestern Montana after being swept into the trees. The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center was withholding the victim's name, age and hometown until relatives could be notified.

The center says four people were skiing on the mountain when the slide occurred.

Avalanche danger remained high Wednesday on wind-loaded slopes in southwestern Montana.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has counted seven avalanche deaths in the U.S. this winter.
