Two Women In Custody After Attempted Carjacking, Police Chase

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Two women are in custody after an attempted carjacking early Tuesday morning at East 60th Avenue and Holly Street in Commerce City. Police received a call at approximately 2:30 that the two females approached a car with a handgun and got into the car with the male driver, police said, then drove him around the corner and told him to get out.

Police located the car on Interstate 25 and attempted to pull it over, but the women took off. A short chase ensued and when the speeding car tried to turn onto eastbound Conifer Road from 84th Avenue, the turn was too wide and the car crashed into another driver parked at the intersection.

The driver of that car was taken to the hospital but is expected to be ok.

Thornton SWAT team was called to the scene when the two females refused to get out of the car. After roughly an hour of negotiating, the women were taken into custody, just before 5 a.m.

The intersection of 84th Avenue and Conifer Road was closed off and traffic is being diverted south onto Conifer or back onto I-25. Closures are expected to be in place until 7 a.m.
