Rec Center Burglary Suspect Arrested
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Arvada arrested a man believed to be a theft suspect who targeted recreation centers in both Arvada and Golden after receiving a tip from a citizen.
Investigators identified Zechariah Randolph as the suspect on Tuesday in the two rec center burglaries and auto thefts earlier this month. Police arrested him on Tuesday evening thanks to a citizen tip.
The incident in Arvada happened about 9 p.m. Nov. 4 at the APEX Recreation Center where a member's wallet, cell phone, car keys and blue Toyota Prius were reported stolen. Authorities said the items were taken from a locker in the men's locker room and the thief used the keys to steal the car from the parking lot.
Golden Police said a similar crime occurred Nov. 3 at the Golden Community Center. In that case, a man was seen leaving the men's locker room around the same time a person's wallet, keys and Volkswagen Jetta were reported stolen.
Randolph was arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft and burglary.
"We could not be more grateful to our law abiding community whose partnership helped us to quickly identify and arrest our suspect," said Detective Johnson of the Arvada Police Department in a statement.
