Man Charged In Cold Case Sexual Assault

DENVER (CBS4)- A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2008 as she walked to her home in northwest Denver has been formally charged.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has formally charged Leonard Botello with sexual assault.

On Oct. 3, 2008, the 61-year-old woman was walking home when she was attacked in a park in the 4100 block of Tennyson Street. The charges allege that Botello had seen the victim and asked her for sex and when she refused he became angry and attacked her.

The case remained unsolved until Botello was identified as a suspect through a DNA match earlier this year. He was arrested on Friday.

Botello remains in custody on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 5 to be formally advised of the charge.
