Colorado Company Selling Nun-Chucks To Police Department In California

DENVER (CBS4)- A company in Colorado is selling nun-chucks to a police department in California.

Police officers in Anderson, Calif. are using the ancient martial arts weapon as a restraining tool. They believe the nun-chucks will replace the police baton.

Police say the nun-chucks are an excellent non-lethal tool because they can knock a violent suspect to the ground and also can be used for restraint.

"It doesn't hurt to add another weapon in your arsenal which is more compassionate safer and causes less injury," said Anderson Police Chief Michael Johnson.

Officers will not be required to use nun-chucks but if they do, they must complete 16 hours of required training.

The company, Orcutt Police Nunchaku, was created by retired Colorado officer Sgt. Kevin Orcutt.
