Students Dine On Locally-Sourced Food For Lunch

DENVER (CBS4)- Students across Colorado ate locally-sourced food for lunch on Wednesday for Colorado Proud School Meal Day. The event encourages schools to serve products grown and made in our state.

More than 600 schools statewide participated in the program. The goal is to celebrate Colorado agriculture while educating students about healthy eating.

"Kids that are able to see a carrot grow, a pepper grow and to taste in the garden," said Curry Rosato with Boulder Valley Schools, "They're more willing to eat it and that's what we're about."

Part of the event included farmers visiting schools. In Lafayette, the owners of Ollin Farms met the students at Sanchez Elementary where they tried Ollin Farms Pepper Slaw.
