Metro Taxi President: 'We Will Not Rest Until Darren's Killer Is Caught'
DENVER (CBS4) - A resident of Denver's Green Valley Ranch thought someone had accidentally driven into a trash can sometime after 4 a.m. Saturday. What he did not know is someone had shot and killed a cab driver.
Darren Bloomquist, 49, was killed. Metro Taxi's president, Robert McBride, issued a statement saying, "We will not rest until Darren's killer is caught."
Bloomquist's cab was discovered by neighbors after it crashed into a parked SUV. Police were called by Metro Taxi to make welfare check of Bloomquist. A policeman arriving on the scene quickly called for the homicide detectives.
Neighbors say they saw police counting cash on the trunk of the cab, but police are not saying whether robbery was the motive. A police spokesman told CBS4 the murder of a cabbie is out of the ordinary in Denver.
Cab drivers told CBS4 before the murder they worried more about drunks, and not whether someone might attack them. Some drivers are saying they want off the nightshift.
McBride says cab drivers are required by state law to provide 24/7 service to citizens and tourists of Denver.
