Police: Semi, Trailer Wanted In Overpass Hit & Runs Located

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- Investigators with Denver Police and the Adams County Sheriff's Office believe they located the semi and an empty trailer wanted in connection with several hit-and-runs with overpasses along Interstate 25.

The semi truck struck at least three overpasses on northbound I-25 on Thursday afternoon and kept driving. The overpasses suffered damage and several chunks of concrete fell onto the lanes below.

A semi hauling a yellow excavator or backhoe on a flatbed apparently struck at least three and maybe a total of four overpasses in the northbound lanes along I-25, including 20th Street, 23rd Avenue, Speer Boulevard and possibly the 84th Avenue bridge about 1:43 p.m. Thursday.

At one point, traffic was reduced to one lane while crews cleaned up the concrete and the overpasses were inspected.

Officers with Denver Police teamed up with the Adams County Sheriff's Office to track down what they believe is the semi and empty trailer in a lot owned by Hillen Corp. in Commerce City.

They tracked down the semi before 9 p.m. Thursday after several hours of searching. The excavator was not on the trailer.

Investigators did not reveal what evidence led them to that location. They also did not discuss whether the driver of that semi was located.
