Teen Kidnapping Victim Was 'Terrified' During Forced Drive From Conifer To Pueblo
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The man wanted for allegedly kidnapping a teenage driver, telling him he had a gun and forcing him to drive to Pueblo, has been arrested.
After a variety of tips from both citizens and law enforcement the suspect was identified as Dakota Holand.
Police believe Holand, 20, forced a 16-year-old to drive him to Pueblo from Conifer last Thursday.
The teen had stopped at the King Soopers located at 25637 Conifer Road about 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 20 and when he returned to his vehicle, police believe Holand was the man inside.
"It does appear he took the time to choose his victim very carefully," Jacki Kelley with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said. "That male indicated that he had a weapon and told him to shut up and drive."
On the way during the 2-hour drive to Pueblo the car began to get low on gas, forcing them to stop in Colorado Springs where surveillance cameras caught the suspect on video inside a convenience store.
The victim said the suspect forced him to stop at an ATM where the victim withdrew money from his account. When they got to Pueblo, Holand ran away and the victim called police.
"He was terrified and did what that suspect asked him to do," Kelley said.
At no time was the boy physically injured by the suspect.
Holand is in custody for auto theft after he was arrested by Aurora police in a stolen car at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Charges related to the kidnapping and robbery for the Jefferson County are forthcoming. Holand remains in custody in Aurora on unrelated charges.
