Stopover Festival To Bring Big Names, Big Crowd To Salida

SALIDA, Colo. (CBS4) - Salida is preparing for a large concert event this weekend as the Stopover festival comes through. The bands are known as the Gentlemen of the Road, and this road show has some big name acts.

Mumford & Sons headline the show, and say they are excited to bring the festival to another incredible setting.

"Being able to put on your own festival where you get to like pick a lineup is pretty much the dream," said lead singer Marcus Mumford in a video describing the festival.

The way it works is a gathering of bands, headlined by Mumford & Sons, on one stage and then in other parts of town. Calling it a festival doesn't quite fit, drummer Ben Lovett said in the video.

"It didn't do it justice. It's more like the celebration of a town. It's like us going and working with that town and bringing the music as an element of that, rather than the music being what it's all about."

Gentlemen of the Road concerts this year include Seaside Heights, New Jersey, and Walla Walla, Washington. The loose rules include taking the party from the stage to the town, which is a big difference from other festivals, says Boulder-based promoter Mike Luba told CBS4.

"And then we do a whole bunch of music downtown. And there's equal focus on being in the local town, as opposed to driving out to a random field in the middle of nowhere," Luba said.

Mumford & Sons say the fans seem to love it.

"It's pretty mondo for us, we're pretty excited for people to come and share the experience with us. That's what we're all in it for," Mumford said.

The long-planned festival in Salida takes place on Friday and Saturday and also features The Flaming Lips, Jenny Lewis, Dawes and several other bands.
