Pursuit Ends With Arrests, 3 Police Officers Hurt

DENVER (CBS4) - Three Denver police officers were hurt in a scuffle with three wanted suspects on Sunday afternoon.

It began when police officers spotted a car connected to outstanding warrants and ended in an alleyway at West Ellsworth Avenue and Fox Street.

Video from a passerby showed one man being wheeled out of the alley. Five minutes later, another man, in handcuffs, was loaded into a Denver police cruiser.

Both men were in a silver sedan. The driver ran from police.

"The car pursued into the alley, officers boxed it in at that point in time, and that's where they stopped it," said Sonny Jackson of Denver police.

Police say one of the two men initially gave a fake name.

"The passenger came back with numerous outstanding warrants for him, armed and dangerous etc., so we ordered him out of the car, he got out of the car, he fought with the officers," said Jackson.

Three officers were injured in the fight, suffering assorted bumps and bruises.

"One officer has a possible broken nose, we're going to look at that," Jackson said.

At one point, a woman came by to claim her car.

"And asked us, hey that's my car what's going on? She had numerous warrants for her so subsequently she was arrested, we found drugs on her as well," Jackson said.

Police said several illegal items were found in the car. They would not say if it was drugs, weapons or both, however a hazmat team was called out when police suspected the car could be a mobile meth lab. That turned out not to be the case.
