Online Photo Contest Is A Delicious Way To Learn About Colorado Produce

DENVER (CBS4) - CBS4 is a proud sponsor of Colorado Proud and the Choose Colorado Produce Challenge going on through August.

The Choose Colorado Produce Challenge is an online photo contest that's being put on by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Participants learn fun facts about Colorado produce by completing 15 "delicious" challenges to get re-acquainted with produce grown in Colorado.

Some of the challenges include "taking 'selfies' with produce farmers, picnicking with locally-grown produce, attending farmers' markets, visiting farms, answering trivia questions and preparing local recipes," according to the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

There will be two winners with each receiving a $500 Safeway gift card. One winner is for completing the most challenges and the other is for the person who gets the most public votes on one photo entry.

The contest ends Aug. 31.

"We want consumers to show us their produce pride through the Choose Colorado Produce Challenge," Wendy White, marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture, said in a statement. "The produce challenges and trivia will encourage consumers to think about where their produce comes from and understand the many ways they can support the local economy by buying and eating Colorado produce."

The contest was inspired by Gov. John Hickenlooper proclaiming the month of August Colorado Proud Month.
