NFL Hall Of Famer & Broadcaster Frank Gifford Passes Away

DENVER (CBS4) - The sports and media world lost a hall of famer when Frank Gifford passed away at his home in Connecticut on Sunday.

Frank Gifford played for the New York Giants his entire career and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1977.

After retiring, Gifford wasn't finished with football. He began broadcasting for the NFL, beginning with CBS and later became the voice of ABC's Monday Night Football broadcasts for 27 years until 1997.

A statement from the family reads in part: "We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being."

Gifford was born in Santa Monica, California in 1930. He attended USC on a football scholarship and was drafted into the NFL in the first round back in 1952.

He married talk show host Kathie Lee Gifford in 1986, and is survived by his wife and five children. Frank Gifford was 84 years old.
