Denver Sheriff Reform Process Continues

DENVER (CBS4) - Efforts to improve the Denver Sheriff Department are continuing.

An independent review of the department was ordered following several excessive force cases. The review released in May has more than 400 recommendations.

Officials with Denver's Department of Public Safety say they are reviewing and prioritizing all of them.

It says recommendations addressing use of force, training and jail management will get priority. The full list of priorities as provided by Executive Director of Public Safety Stephanie O'Malley lie below:

- Use of Force and Internal Affairs
- Staffing and Performance Optimization
- Leadership, Supervision and Strategic Planning
- Training
- Human Resources
- Technology
- Jail Management and Operations

"We have a lot of folks committed to this process and we are spending considerable time evaluating the recommendations and developing implementation plans that are well-thought out and that make sense for Denver," O'Malley said in a prepared statement. "I have no doubt that through our collective efforts we will meet Mayor (Michael) Hancock's charge to move the Sheriff Department in the direction it needs to go to be one of the very best in the nation."
