Old Jury Duty Scam Resurfaces In Adams And Broomfield Counties

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) - The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office is warning people they could get a call from someone claiming to be a police officer about missing jury duty, but it's a scam.

The caller will tell the potential victim a warrant is out for their arrest because they did not show up for jury duty. Many times they demand money or a Social Security number to resolve the warrant.

"Just hang up if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer or sheriff's deputy with an arrest warrant because you didn't show up for jury duty. It's a scam," Sue Lindsay with the district attorney's office said in a statement.

Lindsay said it's an old scam but it's recently resurfaced.

"No one from law enforcement or the court will call you and insist that money be sent to avoid immediate arrest," she said.
