More International Passengers Landing At DIA
DENVER (CBS4)- International passenger traffic increased at Denver International Airport over the past year.
International passengers in May totaled 183,627 compared to the same month last year which brought in 182,691 passengers.
United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, British Airways, Icelandair and Volaris were among the airlines that saw international traveler traffic increase.
While international passengers were on the rise, overall traffic declined slightly by 0.7 percent from May 2014 with 4,532,025 passengers in May of this year.
The decline was in part due to a 41 percent decrease in seat capacity by Frontier compared to last year. Other airlines with increases include United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, American Airlines and Delta.
"We are continuing to see strong passenger growth from the majority of the airlines at Denver International Airport," said DIA CEO Kim Day in a statement. "In particular, United and Southwest continue to show trend setting passenger growth, and the summer is off to a healthy start."
Denver International Airport is the 15th busiest airport in the world and the fifth busiest airport in the United States.
