Body Recovered From South Platte River In Waterton Canyon

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Rescue crews pulled a body from the South Platte River in Waterton Canyon on Saturday.

Crews with Jefferson County, West Metro Fire Rescue and South Metro Fire Rescue searched Waterton Canyon about three miles from the mouth of the canyon at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirmed they were conducting a death investigation in a tweet after the body was found on Saturday evening.

Deputies investigated whether the person found had drowned in the South Platte River. The gender, age or description of the victim has not been released.

Jeffco authorities told CBS4 there were no reports of any missing persons at the time the report was made on Saturday.

Waterton Canyon trail reopened for recreation on Friday. It was closed starting June 22 during repairs of the trail that were damaged during high water levels and flooding.
