Smokey Skies Over Colorado Caused By Western Wildfires

DENVER (CBS4)- Those smokey skies over Colorado may be sticking around a while and only part of the issue is those wildfires in the West.

A ridge of high pressure is keeping those hazy skies over the state. The pressure traps those particulates and keeps them from moving out.

Across the Western U.S. there are several wildfires burning including the Buckskin Fire in Portland which has charred nearly 5,000 acres, the Washington Fire in Northern California which has burned 6,500 acres, the Whitetail Fire in Arizona that's consumed nearly 20,000 acres and the Lake Fire in Southern California that's burned more than 17,000 acres.

Those fires are producing a lot of smoke. That combined with the ridge of high pressure over New Mexico has kept those hazy skies over Colorado.
