Thief Targets Musician, Steals Rock Band Equipment

MORRISON, Colo. (CBS4)- Thousands of dollars worth of musical equipment was stolen from the guitarist of a Colorado rock band and the victim says he won't press charges-- on one condition.

Will James, guitarist and vocalist of The Samples, said the thief or thieves broke into his car while it was parked outside his home in Morrison.

"Instead of being up to here and a couple of guitars in the backseat, it was empty," said James.

James had his car packed up with all the equipment needed for this weekend's show in Frisco. Wednesday morning he went outside to find all his custom instruments and equipment... gone.

James said the equipment is worth nearly $7,000 but it's not just the money that's the issue. His gear has been customized to fit the native Colorado band's unique sound.

The Samples is a band that was formed in Boulder, Colorado in early 1987.

For that reason, James said the equipment is practically irreplaceable, especially just days before the band's next gig in Frisco at the 22nd annual Colorado BBQ Challenge.

"It made me feel sick to my stomach, you know, anger can be a reaction that I have pretty easily but yesterday, I just felt sick and violated," said James.

James filed a criminal report with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. He said he is willing to drop the case, no questions asked, if whoever took his equipment or knows something about it, gets it back to him.
