Deputies: Rafter Drowns On The Colorado River

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Garfield County deputies said despite rescue efforts a man died after falling from a raft on the Colorado River on Saturday.

Deputies rushed to the banks of the river east of the Grizzly Creek Rest Area along Highway 6 about 12:38 p.m. Saturday.

According to investigators there were originally three people in the raft, two men and a woman. One man and the woman were able to pull the man who fell into the river back into the raft where they began CPR.

The raft landed at the Grizzly Creek Rest Area about 12:42 p.m. CPR continued on the shore but deputies say the patient was unresponsive.

Glenwood Fire Department EMTs arrived on scene about 12:46 p.m. and continued to try to revive the patient but their attempts were unsuccessful.

The name of the victim has not been released.
