Man Found Guilty In Neighborhood Rampage

DENVER (CBS4) - A jury has handed down a guilty verdict in the case of a Denver man accused of killing his neighbor and putting his neighborhood on alert.

Police say Daniel Abeyta also shot his wife and put his whole neighborhood in danger with homemade explosives.

Abeyta was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse on Monday night. The verdict was announced in court Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors say the bombs were propane tanks that were rigged with gunpowder on top so they would explode when Abeyta shot at them.

The incident happened in August 2013 at his home on South Irving Street near Evans in the Harvey Park neighborhood. He has been in jail since he was arrested.

Police ended up shooting and seriously injuring Abeyta.

Abeyta's wife was shot in the lower part of her body. His neighbor Sandra Roskilly, 47, was killed when she tried to help Abeyta's wife.

Closing arguments in the case wrapped up Monday. Jurors ended their deliberation Monday night.
