Lakewood Girl Continues To Semifinals In National Spelling Bee
OXON HILL, Md. (CBS4) - A 12-year-old girl from Lakewood has qualified for the semifinals in the 88th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Sylvie Lamontagne, a seventh grader at Creighton Middle School, will compete in the fourth round on Thursday in Maryland.
The contest started with 285 spellers.
Among the words Lamontagne spelled correctly was eutrophic, which is adjective used to describe lakes.
The students are competing for top honors and more than $37,000 in cash and other prizes.
Colorado had another contestant -- Cameron Keith from Boulder -- but he didn't qualify for the semifinals.
