1 Dead After Car Crashes Into Wheelchair
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora investigated a deadly crash that happened when a car crashed into a man riding in a wheelchair Thursday afternoon.
Copter4 flew over the scene where a sedan with a lot of front end damage was stopped in the middle of Alameda Avenue near Moline just after 4 p.m. Thursday.
Investigators said the driver of the Chrysler 300 was driving eastbound on Alameda Avenue about 3:30 p.m. when the driver went unconscious due to an unknown medical condition. The vehicle went off the road and onto the sidewalk hitting 68-year-old Leon Hoschouer.
The Chrysler collided with the wheelchair and then continued until the vehicle struck a power pole and then collided with another car. Hoschouer was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later.
The driver of the Chrysler, a woman in her 40s, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
CBS4 has learned Hoschouer was an army veteran and father of two.
Police do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed played a role in the crash, and the driver will not be charged.
Eastbound lanes of Alameda between S. Lansing and S. Moline Street were closed for about four hours during the investigation and cleanup.
