Jeffco Deputies Arrest Their Own Commander

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - CBS4 has learned that Jefferson County sheriff deputies arrested their own commander for DUI and careless driving earlier this month.

Court records show Jefferson County patrol deputies arrested their lieutenant, Kenneth Ester, May 2 at about 10 a.m.

Ester has been with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department for more than 30 years.

On the day in question Jefferson County turned the case over to the Colorado State Patrol due to the potential conflict of interest.

Ester refused to take either a blood or breath test in connection with the DUI stop. His department placed him on paid administrative leave following the incident.

Court records show Ester is due back in court June 22 for an arraignment.
