Hikers Find Trees Cut Down, Police Search For Suspects
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Investigators are asking hikers to help them track down who may be behind the mystery of cut trees in a popular hiking spot.
At least 30 trees have been illegally cut down in the last six months at Red Rocks Canyon Open Space.
Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a 789-acre city park in Colorado Springs located on the west side of the city, adjacent to Manitou Springs and south of U.S. Route 24.
After the trees are chopped down, the rest of the tree is left lying on the ground next to the stump.
"I'm pretty devastated to hear that somebody is coming here and is cutting down trees," said hiker Rachel Boziwick.
"It's appalling. I don't understand why, what reasoning. It's sad to see," said hiker Tori Binkowski.
Police in Colorado Springs believe the only way to catch the vandal or vandals is if someone spots him.
