Coors Field Celebrates 20th With Familiar Faces, Special Homecoming

DENVER (CBS4)- A special homecoming is planned for Colorado Rockies alumni this weekend. Sunday marks the 20th Anniversary of the first regular season MLB game played at Coors Field.

To celebrate, the team is bringing back familiar faces and a familiar voice.

If you're a sports fan in Colorado chances are you've heard of Alan Roach and probably "heard" Alan Roach as well.

Roach spent 14 years as the stadium voice of the Colorado Rockies starting with the 1993 inaugural season at Mile High Stadium, the home of the Denver Broncos.

With his signature style and booming baritone, Roach has introduced the most famous players to ever wear a Rockies jersey.

"Dante Bichette! That one was easy. Walt Weiss was always one of my favorites to say and that's simple," said Roach.

The Rockies played their first game at the newly-built Coors Field on April 26, 1995.

To celebrate Coors Field's 20th Anniversary, more than a dozen players from the 1995 Rockies roster will attend Sunday's game.

Roach will be on the microphone once again to announce them.

"I remember being there, I remember Dante Bichette, I remember the first home run at Coors Field, I remember Eric Young hitting it out of Mile High Stadium, so many great memories of the Rockies and for 14 years I was there for every one," said Roach.

Roach stepped down in 2006 to spend more time with his family but never left the sports scene. Along with his morning radio show, his resume include announcing for Colorado Avalanche games, Olympic events and eight Super Bowls.

Next week Roach heads to Chicago to announce the players selected in the NFL draft.

The Rockies take on the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field on Sunday. First pitch is 2:10 p.m.
