Willie Nelson On Marijuana Brand Launch: 'I Feel Like I Bought So Much, It's Time To Start Selling It Back!'

DENVER (CBS4) -- Singer Willie Nelson is launching his own brand of marijuana. Nelson announced his new business endeavor on Monday, the unofficial stoner holiday, 4/20.

"Willie's Reserve" will be grown and sold in Colorado and Washington, and in more states as state regulations allow.

Nelson gave Rolling Stone an inside look at the type of brand he hopes to establish.

"I will make sure it's good or it won't be on sale," the singer told Rolling Stone. "There should be a menu just like in a restaurant because there's so many different kinds of pot that do many different things. It's a good idea to have everything labeled for what it does, what it don't do [and] how powerful it is."

Nelson joins other famous pot personalities, including rapper Snoop Dogg, who endorses vaporizing products; singer Melissa Etheridge, developing marijuana-infused wine; and reality TV star and self-help guru Bethenny Frankel, who is working on a strain of Skinnygirl weed that wouldn't leave users with the munchies, as reported by Associated Press.

"It fell together like evolution wants it to," Nelson told Rolling Stone. "It's just a matter of time in this country before it's legal. I feel like I bought so much, it's time to start selling it back!"

The singer and marijuana legalization advocate said the company is an extension of his passion and appreciation for the variety and quality of the plant. He says that fans can expect clean and consistent products from Willie's Reserve.

Michael Bowman, a spokesperson for the brand, said late last month that it will include marijuana grown under Nelson's oversight, as well as products from growers who meet the brand's standards. Bowman emphasized that Nelson will place importance on growers who keep environmental and social justice issues as priorities.

"I am looking forward to working with the best growers in Colorado and Washington to make sure our product is the best on the market," Nelson added.
