Moody: 'The 12' An Impressive World Premiere For Denver Center Theatre Company
DENVER (CBS4) - "The 12" is a new musical take on a very old story -- and one that still resonates with audiences.
"The 12" is almost like a locked-room drama, according to Critic at Large Greg Moody.
Eleven men are locked in a room, their leader is dead, they're wanted by the authorities and they've got to decide what they're going to with their leader's teachings and the rest of their lives.
It's stunning drama that follows the apostles just after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
"It's a drama of loss and fear, but also one of revelation and redemption," Moody said. "The key is in the performances. This is a marvelous cast of strong dynamic and diverse characters."
The musical features a rock music score that highlights the turmoil racing through each person on the stage.
Two female leads -- Christina Sajous as Mary Magdalene and Jeannette Bayardelle as Mother actually drive the action, according to Moody. They push the men out of their fear and into their individual destinies.
"Bayardelle is simply stunning in the first act closer," Moody said.
Moody said it's another impressive world premiere for the Denver Center Theatre Company.
"I can't wait to see the next steps taken by 'The 12' … Broadway? Who knows? But it's exciting to watch and hope."
"The 12" runs through April 26. For tickets call (303) 893-4100 or visit denvercenter.org.
