Westminster Police Want Help In St. Patrick's Day Murder Investigation

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Westminster police would like the public's help in a murder investigation that was originally thought to be a suicide.

According to police, Lucas Mendoza was found dead by his family inside their home on St. Patrick's Day.

Investigators believe somebody shot and killed Mendoza, 41, in his home located at 7337 Bradburn Boulevard between 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Mendoza was a husband and a father of four children. His son, Ricardo Mendoza Madrigal, believes his father knew the shooter based on some messages that were on his phone.

"Frustrating, sad," said Madrigal, "It's everything, whoever did it..."

Police also believe the shooting was not random but do not have any suspect information.

"Police are looking for anyone who may have been in the area of 73rd and Bradburn Boulevard on March 17, or has any information related to the homicide," police said in a statement.

"I don't know if he got into a fight, I don't know, I'm not sure. I hope not. It's just hard, said Madrigal. "He was cool with everybody around here. Didn't have problems with anyone."

Madrigal wants justice for his father and his own sense of safety restored.

"We're scared because we don't know who it is, could be around anywhere," said Madrigal.
