Colorado Leads Nation In Growth In Wind Energy Factory Jobs

DENVER (AP) – The Denver Post reports Colorado led the nation in the growth of wind energy manufacturing jobs in 2014.

The Post quoted the American Wind Energy Association as saying almost 4,900 megawatts of wind projects were added in the U.S. in 2014, four times the amount added in 2013. That spurred a rise in employment of 22,500 jobs for a total of 73,000.

A spokeswoman for the trade group, Emily Williams, says the biggest job growth was in Colorado, and that that was due to Denmark-based Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s largest maker of wind turbines and operator of two factories in Brighton and one each in Windsor and Pueblo.

The trade group says Colorado’s 6,000-7,000 wind jobs put it third in industry employment, behind Texas and Iowa.
