Fire Crews Battle House Fire In Castle Rock
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters battled a house fire in Castle Rock early Saturday morning. One firefighter was hurt in the blaze that also spread to surrounding brush.
Fire crews rushed to the abandoned home at 165 Prairie Hawk Drive along Interstate 25 at the Plum Creek Exit just after 7 a.m. Saturday. The fire had fully engulfed the building and spread to nearby trees and grass.
Fire crews had to move to defensive mode in fighting the fire because of the intensity of the blaze.
"It did affect two outbuildings that were on site while we were here," said Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Eric Morgenthaler.
One firefighter was injured, he suffered an injury to his eye.
"We're in an area without water so at that point we have to establish a tender shuttle operation and haul water in for firefighting," said Morgenthaler.
About 35 firefighters from Castle Rock, South Metro Fire and Rescue, Franktown Fire Protection District and the Larkspur Fire Protection District.
The fire is being investigated as suspicious.
