4 Being Held In Connection To Recent Smash & Grab Burglaries

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver have four people in custody believed to be connected to more than two dozen smash and grab burglaries at West Denver businesses.

At first police believed they were looking for two suspects connected to the burglaries, including the most recent where the suspects used a large rock to smash their way into a cell phone store overnight.

Police in Wheat Ridge arrested one adult and three juveniles about 12:30 a.m. after a vehicle crash at 29th and Teller. Police in Denver confirm those suspects are in custody in connection to the recent smash and grabs.

"We're calling this crew the 'Smash and Grab Bandits,'" said Denver Police Commander Paul Pazen. "Primarily they're hitting restaurants and removing cash from the register or the entire register itself."

Detectives believe the burglars are smashing their way into convenience stores, restaurants and other businesses in West Denver.

Bryanna Wilber said both of the cell phone stores she manages were hit and caught on security camera.

"All they did was grab two phones, ran here, stopped and then ran back out," said Wilber. "We did get told it's a group of kids like 12 to 17."

The suspects use large rocks or bricks to smash their way into the West Denver businesses. They also are disguised head to toe and often use stolen vehicles.

"They need to go to school, find a hobby or a job because they're aiming for money and it's not too hard to find one," said Wilber.
