Former Supermax Inmate Gets Maximum 15-Year Sentence In Threats Case

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP/CBS4) - A Missouri man has been sentenced to the maximum term of 15 years in federal prison for sending threatening letters while he already was a prison inmate at the Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.

Fifty-six-year-old William Mabie of Festus was sentenced Friday in East St. Louis, Illinois. That's where he was convicted in December of three counts of mailing threatening communications.

Authorities say Mabie sent the questionable letters in 2012 while he was imprisoned in Florence  and Lompoc, California, on earlier convictions related to threats he also had made. Two of the mailings in the latest case were sent to recipients in Illinois' Bond County.

U.S. Chief District Judge Michael Reagan ordered Mabie to serve his latest sentence after a term he's serving in connection with a Missouri threat case.
