Motorcyclist Accused In Hit & Run Formally Charged

DENVER (CBS4) - A motorcyclist accused in a hit-and-run that left another motorcyclist seriously injured has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Chad Copeland, 25, has been charged with vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

The incident took place on Jan. 25.

"Copeland was driving a motorcycle northbound in the 800 block of North Federal Boulevard when he accelerated and tried to pass traffic in the median. He is accused of running into a truck that was stopped at a light, and then losing control and hitting another motorcycle rider, resulting in serious injuries," Kimbrough said in a statement.

Copeland is currently out on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 13.
