Female Passenger Killed In I-225 Crash Involving RTD Bus

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A fatal crash involving an RTD bus along Interstate 225 in Aurora caused major traffic issues during Friday morning's commute.

I-225 was closed southbound at 6th Avenue for many hours after the accident, which happened at 4:44 a.m.

A female passenger in an SUV was ejected from their vehicle and died. The Oldsmobile Bravada they were in lost control on the icy road, rolled over and hit an RTD bus, according to Aurora police.

The driver of that SUV was also injured and taken to the hospital. Their name, and the name of the woman who was killed, have not been released.

Police said neither of the people in the SUV were wearing seat belts, and asked that motorists remember how important it is to do so in any driving conditions.

There were no passengers on the RTD bus and the driver of the bus was not hurt.

Aurora police said they are investigating whether the SUV was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions."

Aurora was on accident alert throughout the Friday morning commute.
