UberX Driver Accused Of Attempting To Burglarize Airport Customer's Home

DENVER (CBS4) - An UberX driver has been arrested, accused of trying to burglarize one of his customers.

Police say Gerald Montgomery, 51, gave the victim a ride to the airport. After dropping her off he allegedly drove back to her Denver home and tried to break in. The victim's roommate was at home and stopped him from getting in the home.

Montgomery is facing attempted burglary charges. He didn't have a criminal background in Colorado

Uber released a statement saying it has deactivated the driver's access to the platform, pending a full investigation.

"All UberX partners undergo full criminal and driving history background checks before they are allowed to drive on the platform," Michael Amodeo with Uber said in a statement. "The three-step screening we've developed across the United States includes county, federal and multi-state checks."

Uber also refunded the victim's ride.
