Pen Pals Finally Meet After 64 Years Of Exchanging Letters

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Two overseas pen pals who have exchanged letters for decades finally got to meet this week.

For Rosella Sutton's 80th birthday in Colorado Springs she got to meet the woman she first wrote a letter to more than 60 years ago, KRDO reported.

Before living in Colorado, Sutton lived in Minnesota. She wrote to Masayo Lutz, who lived in Japan.

They tried several times to meet up throughout the years, and it always fell through. Until Thursday.

"I can't believe it, but I'm speechless. It's more than I ever could dreamed would happen," said Sutton, when she saw Lutz in person for the first time.

Sutton's daughter arranged the meeting as a special surprise on her mother's birthday.

Sutton helped Lutz learn English through the letters, and Lutz taught Sutton what life was like on the other side of the world.

They fell in and out of touch, but during big life events the two always shared letters to keep them up to date, according to KRDO.

In their meeting at Sutton's house they shared some of the old letters from each other that they had kept.
