Police Want Help Identifying Man Who Tried To Force Way Into Woman's Apartment

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police are hoping someone recognizes a man who tried to force his way into a woman's apartment after following her into the building's lobby.

The incident occurred at the Walsh Manor Annex apartment complex near Mississippi Avenue and Raritan Street. The doors to the apartment complex are always locked, but the suspect was able to find a way inside. That has many who live there upset, especially other women who live alone.

"That makes me feel really unsafe because this building is supposed to be a very safe building," resident Shani Ironsfield said. "Honestly, it's scary … any number of things could have happened."

Denver police say the unknown suspect was caught by surveillance. He followed a woman into the elevator around 9 p.m. on March 3. As the woman opened the door of her apartment he tried to force himself inside, but was unsuccessful.

Ironshield said she saw the man as he was making a quick exit.

"I had just gotten on the elevator and he was running out of the building," she said. "When I got to my floor I saw him booking it across the street and he was yelling at somebody."

Ironshield said she had no idea the man she saw allegedly tried to get inside a woman's apartment. She thinks her building's manager should have alerted residents to be on the lookout.

"Even if it's just a brief bulletin … posted on the door or in the elevators."

Police want people to take a close look at the pictures. They hope the suspect's unique tattoos will help identify him and lead to his arrest.
