CDOT & Uber Offer Vouchers To St. Patrick's Day Partiers

DENVER (CBS4) - Law enforcement officers across the state are cracking down on drunk drivers, and the increased enforcement will continue for several days.

The St. Patrick's holiday is filled with drinks, food and fun, but the big celebration comes with big responsibility.

"We recognize that people will go and they will drink on St. Patrick's Day. But most important is that they do not get in their car afterwards if they've had too much to drink," Amy Ford with the Colorado Department of Transportation said.

CDOT has partnered with Uber to make sure people who drink, don't drive on a weekend marked by spikes in DUIs and drunk-driving injuries.

"Drinking and driving is not cool," said Tracy Moore, who was celebrating responsibly Friday afternoon at Abbey Tavern in the Park Hill neighborhood. "(It's) very dangerous, very, very scary; and extremely expensive. If you don't kill yourself or anyone else, you're looking at an incredibly high fine."

"The decision you make tonight and on St. Patrick's Day could change your life and could change the lives of others," Eastwood said. "It's just not worth it."
