Father-Daughter Wedding Dance Wins Man Trip To Boston To Preview 'Motown: The Musical'

DENVER (CBS4) - Every father usually dances with his daughter on her wedding day, but Sheldon Omi danced with his daughter to a Motown tune that won him the grand prize in CBS4's Motown's Biggest Fan contest.

Omi won a trip to preview "Motown: The Musical" in Boston, and Critic at Large Greg Moody followed him there.

For Omi, a lifetime Motown fan, it was an unexpected burst of good fortune.

"It's quite a privilege," Omi said.

To travel to Boston -- to see the show and meet the cast

"I also would like to let my family take advantage of seeing the show also, because they are big Motown fans," he said.

It's because they are all Motown fans that Omi and his wife Karen got to make the trip. "My Girl" was the song for Omi's father-daughter dance at his daughter's wedding, and that made up his contest entry. In fact, by the end of the trip, just about the entire cast got to see Omi's video, while he and Karen got to see, chat and wander backstage to see how all the musical magic happens.

"We're very fortunate to be here in Boston to see the show," he said.
