Abused Dog Found In Denver Alley

DENVER (CBS4) - Police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after a pit bull was found abandoned in a Denver alley on Thursday.

The 2-year-old dog found near West Alameda Avenue and South Tejon Street had severe injuries to his head, chest, and legs. In addition, his ears were mutilated.

Animal control officers said the injuries are consistent with dog fighting, and the dog's demeanor indicates he was used as a "bait dog."

He's expected to have a slow but full recovery.

"It is a friendly dog, and if it passes our behavior assessment, that dog will be reconnected with somebody out in the community -- a new adopter, rescue organization... But we'll do our darndest to make sure he finds a good home," said Richard Molinari of Animal Care & Control.

Authorities are working to find the dog's owner. If you have any information please call police.
