Break-In, Sex Assault Suspect Strikes In Capitol Hill Neighborhood

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are searching for a man who is responsible for a terrifying attack. The man broke into a woman's apartment then assaulted her when she came home.

It happened in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in the 1300 block of North Corona about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said after the attack the man ran away. He is described as a black male with light to medium complexion, mid to late 20s, about 6-foot with very short hair and no facial hair.

He was wearing black clothes with tan colored, worn out oxford-type dress shoes. The victim told police her attacker spoke perfect English and did not appear to be homeless.

People who live in the neighborhood say they will be extra alert both day and night.

"I lock my locks, make sure my windows are shut. I have a dog, she's a good alert system," said resident Jean Behr. "It is scary that it was a stranger. That always makes it more terrifying."

"It's really scary, especially that he was inside. You always try to tell yourself that's not possible," said resident Katrina Mattern. "My heart goes out to her and I'll be keeping her in my thoughts and prayers."
