Cartier Exhibit Keeps Conversation Going With After-Hour Lounge

DENVER (CBS4)- The jewels continue to dazzle at the Denver Art Museum with Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century but now they're keeping the conversation going.

"Oh, it's amazing, it is truly amazing," said Gemologist John Fuller.

Fuller can't contain his excitement for the show.

"It's hard not to go through and not touch everything," said Fuller.

Inspired by different cultures, Cartier revolutionized Western jewelry with colorful stones and platinum settings.

Fuller shares his passion at a Conversation Lounge in the museum. Visitors have a chance to enhance their experience by mining Fuller's knowledge of the stones and settings.

"The royal stones were traditionally emeralds, rubies, sapphires, diamonds and pearls," said Fuller.

Brilliant Curator Margaret Young Sanchez said the after-hours gatherings make the exhibit fun and interactive.

"Exchange views and exchange information and ideas," said Young Sanchez.

The themes for the lounge change every week. The next is pairing Cartier jewels with sparkling wine then it's a variety of perfumes to polish the presentation of the diamonds and pearls.

"They are both aesthetic experiences and one is through your nose and one is through your eyes and the tangible element," said Young Sanchez.

Fuller said the conversations vary greatly depending on who is in the audience and their perspective of the pieces on display.

"The modern diamonds are designed to sparkle in the light we have today," said Fuller.

The conversation lounges are designed to take your experience to the next level.

"You have a better idea what you're looking at and why it's important... why it's here in the first place," said Fuller.
