No Charges Filed After Cash Stolen From Victim's Purse In Deadly Crash
LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4)- No charges will be filed in the case of cash that was stolen from the purse of a victim in a deadly crash in Longmont last fall.
The head-on crash happened in September 2014 at 17th Avenue and Gay Street in Longmont. Two women were killed, Lisa Garcia, 28 died at the scene and Therese Woodworth, 58, died a short time later at the hospital.
As first responders and police worked to care for the surviving passengers and investigate the crash, something else happened to items that belonged to one of the victims.
Sometime after the crash one victim's family told police that cash had gone missing from WoodWorth's purse. Detectives said that between $800 and $1,200 was stolen.
Deputies say whoever took the money did it after officials secured the crash scene.
Based on the timeline investigators have ruled out witnesses and the general public.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation and interviewed anyone who would have access to the purse, including the Longmont Public Safety Department, University of Colorado Police and the coroner's investigators.
Detectives were unable to establish sufficient probable cause as to who took the money from the purse and the facts were presented to the Boulder District Attorney's Office. The office determined that no charges will be filed.
