Evergreen During The 2003 Blizzard

Denver's second largest snowstorm dropped nearly 32 inches on the metro area over St. Patrick's Day in 2003. More than twice that dumped on Evergreen, where people dug out from 72 inches of powder over three days! Suzanne McCarroll is pictured cleaning off a car at the home of CBS4 photographer Tom Meyers. Those 32 inches are not the largest recorded storm in Denver's history, though. According to NOAA, we received nearly 46 inches of snow from one storm over a five day period in 1913. The Denver Post reports – keep in mind, friends, that TV wasn't around quite yet at that time – that it was quite the challenge to clear the streets with hundreds and hundreds of horse-drawn wagons dropping loads of snow in the open space area between the state capitol and Denver's City and County Building, which is now known as Civic Center Park. Imagine all of that snow fort fun!
