Colorado Sports Hall Of Fame Recognizes Shiffrin, CSU-Pueblo Football Team

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame will honor skier Mikaela Shiffrin and the Colorado State University at Pueblo football team with awards, it announced Wednesday.

Shiffrin, a world champion skier and a 2014 Olympic gold medal winner, has been selected for the second straight year as the Colorado Athlete of the Year.

The CSU-Pueblo football team, which won the NCAA Division II championship in December, was named the Hall's "King of the Hill" recipient.

Shiffrin and the team will be recognized at the Hall's banquet on April 2.

The Hall's selection committee also recognized CSU receiver Rashard Higgins, CSU volleyball player Taylor Simpson, and high school athletes Phil Downing (Broomfield boys wrestling) and Alexa Smith (Lewis-Palmer girls volleyball). Garrison Hayes, of the National Sports Center for the Disabled, is the 2014 recipient of the Hall's Disabled Athlete Recognition Award.

The honorees will be recognized alongside 2014 inductees Chauncey Billups, John Dikeou, John Gagliardi, Becky Hammon, Roy Halladay and Warren Mitchell.
