DIA On Track For Record 2014 Passenger Traffic

DENVER (CBS4)- Denver International Airport is on track for a record=-setting year of passenger traffic for 2014.

Total passenger traffic in November fell 0.1 percent, with 4,029,659 passengers compared to 4,033,321 passengers in November 2013. Total passenger traffic through the end of November remains up 2.2 percent, at 49,075,222 passengers, compared to 48,040,044 passengers at the same point in 2013.

International passenger traffic growth remained robust in November, rising more than 11 percent above November 2013, as passenger traffic increases on Lufthansa, Volaris and Icelandair flights helped boost overall international traffic.

"November marked the 31st consecutive month of international passenger growth at DIA," said Denver International Airport CEO Kim Day. "Total annual passenger traffic at DIA for 2014 remains on a record-setting pace and we are optimistic that we will finish higher than the previous annual passenger traffic record of 53.1 million, set in 2012."

Additionally, mail, freight and express cargo operations saw 43,174,138 pounds of cargo, a 7.5-percent increase in November compared to the same month last year. To date, 468,322,034 pounds of cargo have been handled at DIA in 2014, up 3.4 percent from 452,993,937 pounds of cargo handled during the same timeframe in 2013.
