Thieves Steal Credit Cards, Buy $1,000 Target Gift Cards

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4)- Three women are working together to steal credit cards and then use those stolen cards to buy $1,000 gift cards in stores along the Front Range.

"Holiday shopping is in full swing and an unfortunate time for suspects to take advantage of those holiday shoppers," said Lone Tree Police spokeswoman Kristin Knoll.

Police in Lone Tree are working with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and Fort Collins Police on a series of thefts.

The suspects are targeting unattended purses, usually at restaurants or grocery stores, which are left open and accessible.

"Even if you think you'll be gone for a moment, that moment might be time for someone to take advantage of you so be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings close to you," said Knoll.

The suspects then take the wallet and use the credit cards inside the wallet to purchase $1,000 Target gift cards.
