Lawmakers Want Larger Audit Of State Exchange
DENVER (AP) - Lawmakers want a comprehensive audit of Colorado's health insurance exchange after a state report criticized how officials are spending federal funds.
The Legislative Audit Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved a bill to be introduced in the session that begins in January that would give auditors more authority to examine the inner workings of Connect for Health.
A limited audit released Monday that looked at how the exchange has spent federal grants found that Connect for Health has spent millions more on vendors than what they were initially contracted for, and in some cases made payments without proper documentation.
The exchange has spent $136.5 million in grants to implement an insurance marketplace under the nation's new health care law.
Exchange officials say they're working to improve financial controls.
