Suspect In Custody In Fatal Westminster Shooting
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - One man was killed and another was wounded in a daylight shooting near a Westminster park on Friday.
Police spokeswoman Kate Kazell said officers received reports about a fight in the park among several people shortly before the shooting. It happened at approximately 3 p.m. at 72nd Avenue and Raleigh Street near England Park.
Kazell said police aren't sure what caused the fight because everyone but the victims fled.
The wounded man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police didn't identify either victim.
"Obviously it's concerning it's the middle of the day. There's a lot of residential areas around. It is concerning it happened in a public park," Kazell said.
One suspect was taken into custody at 5 p.m., police said. That's person's name hasn't been released.
Westminster and Hidden Lake high schools were placed on lockdown.
Police cordoned off a large area with crime scene tape as officers searched for suspects.
